The non-profit association Uppsalakai was founded in 2001 by Daniel Mauno Pettersson and a small group of manga and anime enthusiasts. The associations first event, UppCon:01, took place in 2002 and drew about fifty visitors. At the jubilee UppCon:10, which was held in spring 2010, the general public was allowed to take part of UppCon. UppCon:10 had 3000 visitors, the general public excluded.
